Lighting is the jewelry of a space, a belief Rasheeda Gray, founder of Gray Space Interiors, fully embraces. In our discussion, she shared insights into her journey, her inspirations, and the vital role of lighting in interior design.

From Marketing to Interior Design

Gray transitioned from a successful marketing career to interior design, seeking purpose in work she truly loved. With a master’s in business, she pursued a design certificate at Temple University before launching her own firm. Entrepreneurship gave her the freedom to create while leveraging a diverse team to accelerate growth. A key revelation has been the seamless integration of her marketing expertise with design, allowing her to craft spaces that are both aesthetically compelling and strategically aligned with her clients' lifestyles.

The Power of Lighting in Design

For Gray, lighting is foundational. "It’s one of the most important parts of a project for both function and style," she explains. Early in the design process, she considers a room’s purpose and mood. Educating clients on layering ambient, task, and accent lighting helps them see the transformative impact.

A Kitchen Transformation

A recent kitchen project exemplifies her approach. She selected the Viper Chandelier for its contemporary style and clean lines, which blend seamlessly with different spaces and complement existing fixtures. Over the island, three Styx Vertical Pendants—crafted from alabaster for elegance yet playful in shape and size—introduced an element of sophisticated fun. The Slate Round Mirror, chosen for its perfect size and textured surface, paired well with the organic patterned wallpaper in the adjoining dining room.

Gray's vision for this kitchen revolved around statement pieces that could stand alone yet harmonize within an open-concept design. She prioritized clean lines that wouldn’t overwhelm the space but instead supported and elevated other design details. By layering lighting strategically, she ensured that every selection contributed to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the room.

Gray praises Regina Andrew for its broad selection, fast fulfillment, and diverse range of products. "The available stock selection is amazing, and they have so much more than just lighting," she notes, making Regina Andrew a go-to source and a one-stop shop.

Personal Expression Through Design

Gray’s philosophy centers on individual expression. "I dig deep into who the client is and their story," she says, ensuring lighting choices reflect their lifestyle. For her, lighting defines space, sets the mood, and enhances functionality. Her blend of business acumen and design expertise ensures her interiors shine.
