Michigan's Up North: Refined, Casual Coastal

For many years Michiganders have flocked to Northern Michigan during the summer months. Turquoise water, beautiful beaches, inland lakes, protected forests, wineries and perfect weather all contribute to its laid back sensibility. Welcome to “Up North”.

Northern Michigan Was Once Hemingway’s Playground.

Though Ernest Hemingway grew up in the Chicago suburbs, his family spent each summer at their cottage on the shores of Walloon Lake. The area which includes Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs was the inspiration behind the “The Nick Adams Stories” in which Nick reminisces about the streams and rivers, fishing, farms and woods of northern Michigan.
