Kathryn Lott’s Crane Island Beauty

Located in the Northeastern tip of Florida, two miles from the Atlantic ocean, Crane Island is nestled among the Amelia river that flows from the dividing line of Florida and Georgia, out into the ocean. With over 20 years of experience, interior designer Kathryn Lott, was able to design this wonderful southern home with the beauty of nature at the forefront. In our interview, we touch on her inspiration and choices in this beautiful home.

Where did you find your inspiration for this project?

“The view beyond the house, overlooking the marsh, was a key point in the overall design of the house. Making sure that we highlighted what was beyond the windows was the goal for each room of the house.”

"I love that Regina Andrew offers a range of products in similar styles. It makes it easy to pull together finishes without being matchy-matchy."

Walk us through your choices. What styles you chose and why?

“This particular client was open to ideas, looks, color, texture and different styles. I was able to mix a modern feel with more transitional pieces to give the overall home a symbiotic feel without leaning toward a particular style.”

Did you have a favorite room? If so, why?

“I love the dining room. There’s a lot going on in this space, from the elevated trim and drapery details to the bar area with mirrored tiles and Driftwood Sconces. And overlooking the oversized dining table is the Glacier Chandelier. The space is elegant, with a modern look and feel, that is equally inviting and warm..”

What was the biggest lighting challenge of the project?

“The challenge was pulling all of the aesthetic elements together. We had to make the kitchen spaces (a tad more traditional in look with the pendants and the brick) work together with the more sleek, modern appearance of the dining room. We were lucky to visit the Regina Andrew showroom with our clients in advance of selecting lighting for the home. The husband fell in love with the Large Bell Jar Pendants (over the kitchen island) for their more rustic, traditional look, and the wife fell in love with the large Glacier Chandelier.”

Any specific reaction from your clients for this wonderful design?

“They cried. Both of them cried. I cried.”

What made Regina Andrew products stand out for this project?

“My client base varies in taste from coastal to traditional and modern. RAD offers something for everyone. Also, the ability to select furnishings, lighting, mirrors, and decor in one place is a game changer.”

What were the benefits of choosing Regina Andrew?

“Quality. It is consistently reliable and for that, I will always return. I have designers that reach out and ask where to purchase certain products and RAD is a leading contender for all my product sourcing.”

We want to thank you so much for letting us talk to you about your project. Before you go, what made this project RAD?

“There are so many elements in this project—the mural in the office to the dining and living spaces to the upstairs—that are worthy of their own RAD moment. Having a client that gives you the creative freedom to make these ‘moments’ is always RAD and momentous!”
